The interface is necessary between the PC and the lights. The communication between the PC and the interface is made through the usb port. The communication between the interface and the lights is made through DMX line. DMX (or DMX 512) is a protocol that allows the user to control up to 512 channels with one single controller. This is the standard used by all lighting equipment manufacturers in the theatre, event and nightclub industry. The lighting equipment such as power units, intelligent lights, color changers, smoke machines, motors, etc., have a DMX input socket. So all kind of lighting equipment can be controlled with one single interface, with or without the use of a computer.
All interfaces have the ability to operate stand-alone (without computer). The different models offer:
. BOX : one scene (automatic starting)
. SSA : 14 buttons to call up to 4 scenes simultaneously within 14, with show speed control
This makes a backup of your show in case of computer failure. For the model with buttons, it also takes the place of a stand-alone controller giving you amazing flexability.
The interfaces have a DMX input to link to an external lighting desk. For instance, the user can fade par cans, with real faders, while the software controls the movements of your intelligent fixtures. On the SSA interface, the DMX input works in stand-alone mode to.
